Our busy Glasgow head office requires a motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant / Credit Controller to join our team.

Role Overview

The Accounts Assistant / Credit Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing the sales ledger, ensuring timely collection of outstanding payments, and assisting with day-to-day finance operations. This role requires strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage customer accounts and credit control, including issuing statements and chasing outstanding debt by phone and email.
  • Monitor aged debt and ensure timely payment in line with company policies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to resolve queries promptly and professionally.
  • Process sales and purchase ledger invoices accurately and efficiently.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist with cash allocation, bank reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Support the month-end process, including preparing reports for management.
  • Provide administrative support to the Finance Manager and wider accounts team as required.
  • Process weekly payroll  (experience of Sage 50 payroll desirable)

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in an accounts assistant or credit control role (preferably within a busy trade or wholesale environment).
  • Good knowledge of accounting processes and financial procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and accounting software (experience with Sage 50 & 200 desirable).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with a professional telephone manner.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A proactive team player with a positive attitude.
